FREE taster ‘Learn to run’ sessions on Saturday 26 August

If you have been inspired by this year’s Olympics in Rio and would like to try out running for the first time or return to running, then why not come along to I AM A TEAM GB EVENT – a free taster ‘learn to run’ session on Saturday morning on Wimbledon Common?

There’s a beginner’s session at 10-10.45am and an improver’s session at 11-11.45am. If you can’t run for more than a few minutes at a time then the beginner’s session is for you; if you can run for about half an hour then the improver’s session is suitable.

In both sesions there will be advice on running technique, a fun warm up as well as some running depending on your level.

I Am Team GB will be the nation’s biggest ever sports day so why not get involved? To book one of the above sessions please email: info@commonrunners.co.uk.

Pilates for runners course

4-week pilates course to help strengthen and prevent running injuries @ The Wimbledon Club on Friday 4/11/18/25 November, 9.30-10.30am

If you find that you are prone to running injuries, your muscles feel tight after a run or you’re training for a big race, then this 4-week ‘Pilates for Runners’ course is for you.

The course will focus on exercises that specifically target the areas in the body that become tight from running such as the hips, thighs, hamstring, ankles and more.

Stretching is really important after a run as it helps prevent tightening of muscles, reduces injuries and improves your flexibility.

Whether you are a social runner, or someone who takes running more seriously, this course is suitable.

It will be taken by a physiotherapist and trained pilates teacher from APPI Health Group in Wimbledon.

The course must be booked and paid in advance and costs £60. Numbers will be restricted to 11 to ensure individual attention.

Secret London Run!

We now have 13 Common Runners signed up for the secret London Run!

On Friday 23 September @ 10am, we are going on a running/walking tour to discover the women who have shaped London – London’s Power Women (a perfect choice!). The tour will be followed by coffee & cake at a local cafe, an absolute must to recharge our batteries before heading home.

London’s Power Women running tour – organised by Secret London Runs – starts from Waterloo Place near Charing Cross station and finishes at Tavistock Place near Euston Station. The tour takes about 1.5 hours and briefly stops at about 10 places of interest along the way to tell the story of London’s heroines. The distance covered is about 9k which can be run or combined with walking. In other words, all levels are catered for.

This tour looks fabulous and has had some great reviews. The cost of the running/walking tour plus coffee/tea & cake after is £22.

If you haven’t signed up yet but would like to attend please let me know.

London Marathon completed!

Caroline Dunleavy, owner of Common Runners, ran in this year’s Virgin London Marathon and came in at 3.49.03!

This is the first time that Caroline has ran in the London Marathon and hopefully, it will not be her last! Her time gets her a ‘good for age’ place in the marathon for next year/the year after.

“The atmosphere was amazing and it brought a tear to my eye a few times when I was running!”

Spring fitness package donated to Bishop Gilpin for auction of promises

Common Runners was delighted to put together a ‘Spring fitness package’ for Bishop Gilpin’s auction of promises event in March. The package included:

* Barre/HIIT/yoga class with Create Pilates

* A sports/remedial massage with Create Pilates

* A foot scan & pair of sports insoles from Sporting Feet

We look forward to meeting the lucky winner of the package soon.

Richmond half marathon completed!

Well done to Natasha and Jane who ran the Richmond Old Deer Park half marathon with me!

It was a hard race starting with multiple loop backs in the park followed by a very muddy towpath and road running…and then we had to do it all over again as the race was done in two laps!

But we were rewarded with a really nice medal and a sense of achievement. Natasha and Jane are the first Common Runners to complete a half marathon – well done ladies!
