How to prepare

Running gear needed

Before starting a beginners’ running course please make sure that you are able to walk briskly for 20 minutes continuously, at least twice a week. And for improvers, please make sure that you are running at least twice a week for 20 minutes continuously as this will aid your enjoyment and progress.

Clothing

As all classes take place on Wimbledon Common, it is advisable to wear layers so that you can peel off and tie around your waist, when appropriate. Please wear loose fitting clothes, ideally a running t-shirt, shorts, leggings, running tights or jogging trousers. Please don’t go out and buy a whole new wardrobe before you start the course as we will run through what to wear, depending on the season.

Shoes

Appropriate footwear is required. You need a properly fitted pair of running shoes that will provide the correct support for you and help prevent some injuries. Please go to a specialist running shop to get fitted such as Sporting Feet in Putney & Richmond or Sweatshop (branches throughout London). And remember that all course attendees are entitled to 10% discount.

Drinks

It is important to remain hydrated with water throughout so you may want to bring a small water bottle or running bottle, which ever is easier to carry. Common Runners has a pink, hand-held branded water bottle which you can purchase for £10. Please email info@commonrunners.co.uk if you are interested in buying one.

Medication

Please ensure that you bring essential medication and/or inhalers with you while running to ensure that you remain fit and healthy.
